The $40 Tomato

I really wanted to grow a few plants this summer. I started early. I bought little peat pellet seed starter thingys. I bought seeds. I planted seeds. I watered seeds. I tried to give them light, but it was still in short supply in April and May. I cleared bark off the soil. I amended the soil. I fertilized the soil. When the slugs appeared in mass to try and devour my seedlings, I defended my territory by means of chemical warfare.
I have exactly one red tomato.
I hope it's good.

hope it is s good one. We had tons this year...so many i had to throw them away before using them. I think the soil is different here....but doing that from seed is very commendable, we buy starter plants...

I Love that $40 tomato. I have the same little guy myself. It was growing ever so gracefully, just hanging around soaking up the occasional PNW sun. One day my very sweet daughter was admiring this said tomato...and accidentally picked it!!! Now the little 1 1/2 inch not-so-ready tomato is sitting in the window catching a couple more rays before devoured. :)
